INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 2.20.26 | 1:30 AM LOCATION: San Bernardino Mountains AREA/CITY: San Bernardino Mountains DETAILS: At approximately 1:30am on February 20th, 2026, heavy snow continued falling across the San Bernardino Mountains despite forecasts that the storm was expected to taper off. Dozens of abandoned and completely buried vehicles were scattered throughout mountain roadways as plow crews worked vigilantly through the night to keep major routes passable. While primary highways remained accessible, many residential streets remained difficult to navigate. Mountain residents reported significant storm-related damage. Numerous homes across the region sustained severe impacts from massive trees falling onto houses, vehicles, boats, and other property. Each major storm in the mountains has brought its own challenges. The 2019 Thanksgiving storm stranded hundreds of motorists and left more than 1,500 residents without power for nearly two weeks. In late 2020, ice storms caused widespread structural damage and knocked out electricity, cell service, and internet for extended periods. In 2023, the historic “Snowmageddon” buried homes for weeks, caused structural collapses, and led to prolonged outages across the region. Residents continued preparing as best they could, but officials noted that large numbers of visitors traveling to the mountains during active storms often contributed to spinouts, collisions, and traffic congestion by failing to properly equip their vehicles with chains. All eyes remained on the upcoming weekend, as warmer and sunnier weather was expected to help melt snow and ice from trees and roadways. Shot By: Vince P. Injured?
