Painting Demo: Understanding Positive & Negative Shapes

Hi everyone, this week I wanted to a painting demo focusing on positive and negative shapes. In broad terms, positive shapes are "things" ( a flower, a pot, etc.)and negative shapes are the absence of "things". Positive shapes are important because they are what your paint is of; your subject is a positive shape for example. Negative shapes are also important because they add support to your painting. The problem some artist run into is being able to spot negative shapes within their work. If in doubt remember that positive shapes are objects.
