Usually D&C is done in early pregnancy when there is missed abortion or there is no fetal cardiac activity & blighted ovum. D&C is done in general anaesthesia or in local anaesthesia. D&C is basically a blind procedure in which the uterus is evacuated with the help of instruments. Elderly ladies who have irregular PV bleeding or heavy PV bleeding are also candidates of diagnostic D&C. In which all material from the uterus is sent for histopathology to check any abnormality or cancer. Ideally D&C should be the last option in abortion of early pregnancy. Side effects of D&C 1.
