This video was filmed on 25 December 2025 and documents a solo ascent without a rope or harness on the Cuillin Ridge. The route included the following peaks: Sgùrr Dubh an Da Bheinn, Sgùrr Alasdair, Sgùrr Mhic Choinnich, Sgùrr Dearg, Sgùrr na Banachdich, Sgùrr a’ Ghreadaidh, and Sgùrr a’ Mhadaidh. The ascent began from Glen Brittle Hut and the descent followed the Fairy Pools route. Due to the season and extremely short daylight hours—approximately 09:00 to 16:00—I completed 8 out of the 11 main peaks, which added a significant level of difficulty to the day. Working along the Cuillin Ridge presents two fundamental challenges. First, the ridge is composed of two completely different rock types. One is a grey igneous rock with exceptionally high friction; the other is an orange-coloured granite that is notoriously slippery. With even the slightest dampness, it becomes like a bar of soap—the slickest rock I have ever encountered. The second challenge is the abundance of loose rock throughout the route. As seen in the footage, at one moment a relatively large block shifted beneath my foot and was sent tumbling down the mountain. This ascent demanded constant focus, precision, and respect for the terrain. #CuillinRidge #Skye #SoloClimbing #Mountaineering #Scotland
