"Bilmiyorum Bana N'Oldu" is a popular Turkish song composed by Şevki Bey and written by Ahmet Reşat Paşa. It is Hicaz makam (mode) and Aksak usul (rhythm). Şevki Bey was a prominent Turkish musician and composer who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century. He was born in 1860 in the Pirinççi neighborhood of the Kumrulu Mescit district in Istanbul to his father Tarakçı Ahmed Efendi. He completed his primary education and then went to Rüştiye, from where he graduated. It was during his time at Rüştiye that his musical talent and beautiful voice were noticed by his teachers, who encouraged him to join the Mızıka-yı Hümayun. Şevki Bey composed over 600 works during his career, many of which were popularized by famous Turkish singers of the time. He is often compared to Franz Schubert, the creator of modern Lied, due to the remarkable qualities he displayed in his compositions. Some of his popular songs include "Esiri Zülfünüm" and "Niçün Şeptaseher". In addition to his musical career, Şevki Bey also wrote a book on Turkish music theory called "Himmet-i Terakkiyat-ı Mûsikiyye". A 1988 edition of this book is available through the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Şevki Bey was a highly respected figure in Turkish music history, with a legacy that continues to influence contemporary Turkish music today.
