Paraeducators: Key Members of the Educational Team

Paraeducators impact the lives of students both inside and outside of the classroom and play a key role in student success. Paraeducators provide instructional and non-instructional services from early childhood all the way through college. In special education, the majority of paraeducators provide small group instruction or back up support in general education classrooms for students with mild/moderate disabilities. Other paraeducators work one on one with students who have greater learning challenges and functional needs. Paraeducators are required to have a wide variety of knowledge and skills so professional development is key to job performance and improved student outcomes.
