A very enjoyable morning spent at Abbey Wood station on the North Kent Line where we see plenty of services from Southeastern, Thameslink and Elizabeth Line. Abbey Wood station was opened by the South Eastern Railway in 1849, the station came under the control of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway in 1923. And eventually Southern in 1948 when the railways were nationalised. Then when the 1980s made an appearance the station was served by Network Southeast until the network became privatised. Abbey Wood became one of the first stations in the UK to use an APTIS (Accountancy and Passenger Ticket Issuing System) in 1986, this system was utilised across the network by every staffed British Rail station by the end of the 1980s. Abbey Wood is also one of the eastern terminus stations of the Elizabeth Line where trains operate regular services from Heathrow and Reading. I don't think I'll be coming back to this station, its nice enough station but I think one visit is sufficient. My next station is Stratford International.
