SOUNDBITE: (English) Bill Clinton, former US president: "Everyone should be concerned about it because (Israeli Prime Minister) Mr. Sharon not only had worked on Gaza, he started a new party with the purpose of continuing to push for peace. And in the end that's the only answer in the Middle East, you know, reconciliation of the Palestinians and the Israelis based on sharing a small piece of land and an enormous potential future. And his illness, just as ten years ago Yitzhak Rabin's death, put yet another obstacle in the path of the peacemakers and it's almost as if God were testing them one more time to rise again and to keep on." 8. Troops standing guard 9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Bill Clinton, former US president: "I particularly wish Prime Minister Sharon well. He is a remarkable man, he came a long way in his life to the position that he took when he both withdrew from Gaza and then opened it up enough so that Gaza could have a functioning economy. And all of us who believe in peace in the Middle East are in his debt and so, more than anything else, I pray for his health but I also ask everyone, all my friends in Israel to remember his example, the power of his example. We need to keep moving forward." 10. Clinton getting into car STORYLINE Former US President Bill Clinton expressed concern about Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's grave illness, and the repercussions it could have on the fragile Middle East peace process, while visiting French president Jacques Chirac in Paris on Monday. Clinton wished Sharon well and said his stroke, like the assassination of former Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995, "puts yet another obstacle in the path of the peacemakers." Following his meeting with Chirac, Clinton called Sharon a "remarkable man" and said those who believe in peace in the Middle East "are in his debt" for his recent pullout from Gaza. Clinton asked those in Israel to view Sharon as "an example".
