The oldest Senet boards that have been discovered date from pre-dynastic times and it was a popular game that was played in ancient Egypt for over 3000 years, although around 400 BCE it lost its popularity and there’s no evidence of Senet being played after this time. Senet wasn’t played just by the Royals, of course the most beautiful boards were discovered in the tombs of the Royals, but the layout of the game was found everywhere. For instance, the Senet squares and symbols were discovered at the top of the high stone walls from Temples, tombs and other structures, most likely carved by the mason workers who would play the game during their breaks.
