www.szaluckapiano.com "Der Zauberlehrling" or "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is one of eighteen piano etudes written by the Hungarian composer György Ligeti in years 1985-2001. They are considered one of his major creative achievements and one of the most important sets of piano studies in the whole of XXth century in line with those by Debussy or Scriabin. He managed to use his genius ideas as a compendium of the concepts and transformed them into one of the most difficult pieces ever written. There are 18 études arranged in three books or Livres: six Études in Book 1 (1985), eight in Book 2 (1988–1994), four in Book 3 (1995–2001). The titles of the various études are a mixture of technical terms and poetic descriptions. 4th piece from Book II, Der Zauberlehrling is Ligeti’s Etude No 10 for piano and is dedicated to the French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
