As a quick disclaimer: The strait is quite a bit more dangerous than Puget Sound. I've been kayak fishing in the salt for years and know how to read the weather very well. 30+ mph winds are common in this area and the currents can be stronger than you can realistically paddle against. I would advise extreme caution and obsessive preparation before hitting this water yourself. Wow! What back luck with weather! I planned pretty well, but no forecast or weather tool I had predicted any fog at all--none even indicated that it was currently foggy... I've also never seen large swells with no wind. I persevered through the elements and landed one with about 2 hours left to fish on the final day. All the areas I visited in this trip are worth checking out, but Pillar Point was surprisingly fishable. Definitely a better place to start than Neah Bay or some of the other, more extreme places. For more halibut fishing tips check out Halibut Chronicles (https://halibutchronicles.com/) and Salmon University (http://salmonuniversity.com/). These sources plus some YouTube videos are where I got essentially all my info. 0:00 Intro/Freshwater Bay (no catches) 3:11 Neah Bay (still no catches) 5:24 Sekiu (still no catches) 6:43 Pillar Point--Waiting out the tides and fog 8:48 Pillar Point Fishing 9:30 Halibut Catch! 11:40 The bragony after the agony #washington #fishing #kayakfishing #hobiekayak #rockfishing #gopro #uglystik #howto #halibut #bigfish #camping
