Launched in 1936 as Britain's most luxurious ocean liner, the Queen Mary became a WWII troop transport that accidentally rammed and sank the HMS Curacoa in 1942, slicing it in half and killing 329 sailors whose screams were heard across the water as they drowned—but the Queen Mary was under orders not to stop, leaving them to die. During 30 years of service, at least 50 people died on board from drownings in the pools, murders, suicides, and a young sailor named John Pedder who was crushed by a watertight door in Engine Room 13 in 1966. Now permanently docked in Long Beach, California as a hotel and museum, guests report John Pedder's ghost in blue coveralls haunting Engine Room 13, children's laughter in the empty drained pools, and 329 drowned sailors still walking the decks of the ship that killed them and sailed on.
