Join us for our next folk evening on Tuesday 7th December at 8pm, where we will be featuring folk duo, Christina Alden and Alex Patterson. Another journey into the folk music passions, pastimes, performances and studies from the folk music circuit. Wonderfully diverse music and fascinating lives! Who are they? This week’s Tuesday Folk People artists are Norwich-based duo Christina Alden and Alex Patterson, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists who have been singing and playing together for seven years. In that time, they have toured the UK and Europe, released two albums – both to critical acclaim – and graced the stages of some of the UK’s most prestigious folk festivals. And this week, they are giving our Home Stage audience an insight into their work, songwriting and what the future holds for them. What do they do? Using a range of instruments (fiddle, guitar and voice), Christina and Alex produce a warming, well-rounded sound, more than the sum of its parts, that emboldens and draws you into the stories that are shared. Stories of wilderness, of wolves and bears, oceans and sharks – their voices weave and wend around each other, to the point where it’s hard to distinguish whose is whose, in the way that only the very best folk harmonists can. Nature takes centre-stage in a lot of their songs – when asked about the title track from their album Hunter, Christina replied, “We saw the beautiful photographs of Lassi Rautiainen online and wanted to find out more, which is when we learnt of the magical story of friendship between this Grey Wolf and Brown bear. We loved the imagery of old pines and misty lands setting the scene for an unlikely companionship.” What’s their story? Originally the Alden, Patterson and Dashwood trio, the 2020’s lockdown isolated them; two-thirds in one camp, one-third in the other. Making the best of it, Christina and Alex forged ahead with a project that had been at the backs of their minds for a while. This resulted in the album, Hunter, comprised of mostly original songs and tunes. Before lockdown, they toured with Show Of Hands, as well as performed a show at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for Celtic Connections, and appeared at numerous folk festivals around the UK. Join us for an hour of music and chat in this fantastic edition of Tuesday Folk People! On Tuesday 7th December from 8pm, streamed on YouTube and Facebook and available to watch anytime after initial airing.
