De abdij van Grimbergen, is de oudste nog bewoonde norbertijnenabadij van de wereld en werd waarschijnlijk tussen 1124 en 1128 door de Heilige Norbertus gesticht. Naar aanleiding van de Franse Revolutie werd in 1798 de abdij tot op de grond afgebroken, alleen de kerk, de pastorie, een stuk van de boerderij en de oude ingangspoort bleven gespaard. Het interieur van de Sint-Servaasbasiliek is bijzonder rijkelijk gedecoreerd en er worden regelmatig (orgel)concerten gegeven. De basiliek is elke dag open van 7 tot 19 uur. Following the French Revolution, the abbey was razed to the ground in 1798; only the church, the presbytery, part of the farm and the old entrance gate were spared. The interior of St Servatius' Basilica is particularly richly decorated and regular (organ) concerts are held there. The basilica is open every day from 7 am to 7 pm. The abbey is not open to the public.
