Message Notes February 8, 2026 How to Build Your Life on God’s Word – part 5 “Understanding the Meaning of God’s Word” John 15:1-17 SOME BASIC RULES OF INTERPRETATION 1. You consider the historical context. 2. You must define the key words. “Love” is mentioned 9 times, “Fruit” is mentioned 7 times What is the meaning of “fruit” in this context? 3. I interpret unclear verses with clear ones. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. John 15:4 BEARING FRUIT is produced by remaining in Christ. When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. John 15:8 BEARING FRUIT brings glory to God. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! John 15:11 BEARING FRUIT will give me overflowing joy. 4. Look for the most obvious meaning. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! John 15:7 Remaining in Christ produces answered prayers. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. John 14:13 Answered prayer brings glory to God! You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. John 16:24 Answered prayer gives me complete joy! You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. John 15:16 I BEAR FRUIT BY ASKING IN PRAYER.
