So it's been a while since my last Deep Dive speedrun... did an Elite Dive last month and the last SOLO normal Deep Dive I did was back in February... yikes. Well, I'll be honest. Not every deep dive peaks my interest, not a lot of them seem fun. But throughout this year I engaged with other speedruns for DRG... a few leaderboards on speedrun dot com. So that had my attention. I went through a few builds trying to figure out a decent loadout to deal with dreadnoughts in this run. My original build was Conductive Thermals and Special Powder with White Phosphorus, but I quickly found issues with dreadnought health gates and crowds of enemies. I then tried the classic Hipster Special Powder... while the DPS was good the health gates still held me back. Then came Marked for Death & Embedded Detonators with IFGs... this turned out to be overkill in some aspects but the reduced ammo capacity made each shot more valuable which is frustrating when several shots don't hit the hiveguard's fins especially with it's new walking animation added in season 5. Not to mention that the M1000 needs to be reloaded, reducing necessary DPS. Eventually, I landed on this build... Build / Loadout Primary: DRAK-25 Plasma Carbine, 2 2 1 3 2, Overtuned Particle Accelerator Secondary: Zhukov NUK17, 1 1 2 1 2, Embedded Detonators Perks: Deep Pockets, Veteran Depositor, Born Ready, Berzerker, Iron Will Grenade Choice: IFG Beer Choice: Rocky Mountain I use only one Approved Mod in these runs, and that's Aichi's Beer Selector. It skips all the "Disband Team" button presses it takes for the desired daily beer to finally show up. It is a time saver outside of the run. Notes about this run... Stage 1: best split - 4 minutes & 58 seconds (this run) I find the frequency of Duck & Cover's in recent Deep Dives extremely annoying. My opinion aside, the projectile velocity at hazard 3 makes this stage manageable. Still I can't sit in one place for too long, so the main strategy here is to keep moving. The dreadnought cocoon being so far away (and the fact that it's the OG dreadnought) means I can't lure it under the minehead for a instant kill. Instead, my routing fetches aquarqs first and tosses them near the minehead. Then, I fight the dreadnought with IFGs, Berzerker, and Embedded Detonators to hopefully get a 2-cycle. Even under the IFG slow it's easier said than done... the OG dreadnought moves around so much that I have to bank on it randomly stopping to roar to get my damage in. And if I don't kill it fast enough I get bombarded with spitters from the cieling. This stage, while straight forward, kept me on my toes every run. Before leaving I grab 60 nitra and deposit it all into the drop pod. Stage 2: run delta - 6 minutes & 2 seconds (5m 51s best split) The black box being in the middle cave is a minor annoyance. However, the cave formation in the last cave is an even greater annoyance... but at the same time it is a blessing. Typically in 200 morkite missions once you've collected all of the morkite, you would have to travel all the way back up to the drop cave to leave. But this entire cave system is large enough that calling the pod from deep enough in the last cave will drop the pod in the previous cave instead of the first... a silver lining in a cave with several veins in high places. While the last cave does have 200 morkite and then some, the veins are also spread out and far from each other. It makes sense to rush to the black box then rush the last cave, but the dreadnoughts in the other stages force my build to have more killing power than mobility. If I had Special Powder and rushed the black box and last cave the strategy might be viable. But the time gain there I doubt would cover for the time losses to dreadnoughts when compared to Embedded Detonator's dread results. Stage 3: run delta - 4 minutes & 51 seconds (4m 42s best split) The routing here was a difficult one to realize. I can't remember the last time in a solo run when I had to visit all 3 side caves to complete objectives in an elimination, if there even was a time. Not much to say other than that... eventually I settled with what I have in the video. 00:00 Build / Loadout 01:13 7 Aquarqs & OG Dreadnought - volatile guts & duck & cover 06:41 200 Morkite & Black Box 13:13 Twins & Hiveguard & 2 Mules - shield disruption #drg #deeprockgalactic #deeprock #Ryeor
