The Kayak Sweep Up can be one of the quickest of all the upstream techniques, but is also more technically challenging to do well. It best works where the gate is situated just inside the eddyline of an eddy with a gentle to moderate back eddy and where a wide approach can be achieved. However with accurate hip placement above the gate, it can also be effective in stationary eddies, or where the water is moving gently downstream.
