Maternal guilt when transmitting heritage languages abroad

How do national norms of motherhood, or national motherhood constructs, contribute to maternal guilt among migrant mothers when they encounter difficulties in the transmission of their heritage language? In this interview I talk about this topic with Dr. Inga Hilbig and Prof. Eglė Kačkutė. Parental emotional well-being is usually overlooked, but plays a crucial role in heritage language transmission. Her major research interests are the sociolinguistics of early bilingualism, (dis)harmonious bilingualism, and family language policy. Inga Hilbig is an author and co-author of several academic articles, book chapters and science dissemination publications. She has been involved in several national and international scientific and educational projects. Inga Hilbig regularly gives talks and seminars for Lithuanian diaspora parents and community schools’ teachers.
