Meet Gareth Davies, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Director for Urgent & Emergency Care at Manx Care in the Isle of Man. Born and raised in the Isle of Man, Gareth moved to the UK to study medicine at Sheffield University, and worked most recently in a large teaching hospital in the centre of London, prior to moving back to the Island. Gareth was ready for change and wanted to work in a much smaller organisation, where he could get to know all of the consultant surgeons, anaesthetists, and a much more friendly community to work within, allowing him to bring his skills back to his local community. Gareth wears two hats, one being a consultant in emergency medicine, but also as Clinical Director in Urgent and Emergency Care in the Emergency Department. Responsible for the wider Care Group, Accident and Emergency unit, as well as the minor injuries unit, the minor ailments unit, as well as the Isle of Man Ambulance Service. The Island has given Gareth new, exciting career opportunities, taking his career in a slightly different direction - Emergency Medicine. Gareth is now able to truly influence and develop the quality of care and research offered in emergency medicine in a smaller hospital, an opportunity that wasn't afforded to him in London. "I feel very lucky to be working in the Isle of Man, sharing my skills and experience gained in the UK, and serving the local community here."
