The Intensity Is PEAKING In The NBA...

The intensity is elevating in the NBA. We got the clash of the titans in the MVP race, a wild roller coaster game and a lot more madness. So, let’s start in LA where the Sacramento Bulls.. I mean Kings, led by Derozan and Lavine, had a 7 point lead over the Clippers with less than 2 minutes to go. Being just 1 spot above them in the play-in zone, the Clippers must step up right now. Leonard and Zubac with back to back huge plays, cut the lead to just 2 points, but then Derozan was fouled shooting a 3. However, LA challenges the call and it gets overturned in their favor. So, after a couple of empty possessions on both ends, LA has a chance to tie or take the lead out of the timeout. James Harden hits the floater over Jonas tying the game up. Who’s taking the last shot for the Kings? Lavine creates a solid shot at the end but the ball bounces off which means 5 extra minutes. In overtime it felt like it’s 2018 or something because Harden and Derozan were going head to head back and forth. James puts his team up by 1 with less than 30 seconds to play, but Demar ain’t done yet. The king of the 4th delivers in OT as well, with 10 of his 31 points in the extra period. So, down by one, the Clippers clear the way for Kawhi Leonard. THE CLAW With a game winning left handed floater at the buzzer, stuns the Kings and gives his team a much needed win in the play-in race. And speaking of racing, the two MVP candidates went mano a mano yesterday in the first showdown of a back to back games between OKC and Denver. Jokic strikes first, and the Nuggets go up 10-0 at the start of the game. It took the SGA 6 minutes before scoring, but then he couldn’t be stopped. Shai caught fire quickly, and the Thunder trailed by just 1 point after the 1st quarter. Nikola, despite having a career best season shooting from downtown, wasn’t feeling himself in this game. After making his first 3 of the night, he went on to miss the next 8 long range shots. On the other end, SGA was methodical. However, it was still anyone’s game going into the final period, where the number 1 defense in the league really made the difference. The Thunder tightened up the screws limiting Denver to just 7 of 20 shooting from the field in the 4th, while on the offensive end, they were flawless, converting with almost 74% efficiency. At the end it was a 24 point beatdown, as Alexander wins the first battle with 40 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Let’s see how Nikola responds in tonight’s rematch. Moving on to New Orleans for a rollercoaster game, where the home team had a 14 point lead in the 2nd quarter, before the Grizzlies went on a 56 to 31 stretch to build an 11 point lead of their own at the end of the 3rd. And the most exciting moment till that point was a missed dunk attempt by Air Ja. MAAN, he’s floating in the air. Another signature missed dunk by Ja that will go down in the highlight history. Nonetheless, the Pelicans responded with a monster 17-2 run of their own at the start of the 4th, to convert a 10 point deficit into a 5 point lead with 6 minutes to go. Look at the rookie, Karlo Matkovic connecting on 6 of his 13 points in the 4th to give his team a boost from the bench. And just when New Orleans thought they could handle the business in this one, here comes the Grizzlies with yet another run. A 13 to 2 run by Memphis, and all of a sudden, they have a 6 point lead in the clutch. With no Zion or CJ on the court, Jordan Hawkins takes the responsibility. A huge 3 for the Pelicans, and they play great defense on the other end to force a tough shot from distance by Bane which he misses and Olynyk gets fouled by Ja Morant on the rebound. Kelly splits the free throws, and now they have to foul. Brown sends Ja to the line and he misses the first one as well, leaving the door open for a possible miracle. Ohh my goodness, Jose misses everything but a great hustle play by Hawkins to secure another clean look for Kelly who hits just the front iron and the Grizzlies survive the madness at the end. And the Bucks were trying to stay afloat while battling the number 1 team in the NBA on the 2nd night of a back to back, and they looked disoriented on defense. On the other end, Giannis was doing all he could to keep his team in the game. 30 points, 9 rebounds on 52% from the field for the Greek Freak, but it was too little against the balanced Cleveland attack. The Cavs had 8 guys scoring 9 or more points, and hit 19 3’s on 40% efficiency. And when winning time came, they stepped on the gas pedal even more. A 13-0 run in 4 minutes by Cleveland to give them an 18 point lead blew the game away. This was their 14th win in a row. On the opposite, when facing the top 3 teams in the East, the Milwaukee Bucks are now 0-9.
