Telegraph columnist Geoffrey Boycott comments on what England need to do next after a definitive defeat in the first Test against Australia. England have been blown away, anyone can see that. And they have four areas of real concern before the next Test match. One, Trott has to sort out his game against the short ball. That was obvious against Mitchell Johnson in the ODIs in England. He cannot just try to paddle it to leg. Why the hell hasn't he sorted it out in the three months since the ODI series instead of assuming it will be all right once we get here to the Tests? Graeme Swann is the second problem. He does not look like taking wickets; there is no spin here and they are playing him more easily than we are playing Nathan Lyon. The third area is the third seamer. I'm sorry, but it is not good enough to put everything on James Anderson and Stuart Broad. They are our best bowlers, and yes they will do well and get wickets. But we need more than just someone to tie up an end at 80mph. We need to get back in the series by taking wickets but it is obvious that Chris Tremlett is over a yard down in pace than he was a year ago. Lastly, Matt Prior. He has been a fantastic cricketer. But since he got player of the year he has had eight Test matches -- seven in England and one here -- and he hasn't scored a run to speak of. There comes a point in every player's life, once you have done it at the highest level and proved you have been a top class player, that you have a bad run. And you get a bit of leeway, because everyone knows you have done it before, as opposed to a new kid who gets dropped after two games. Prior's had eight matches now and what is worse is the manner of the dismissals. They have been unbelievably bad. There comes a moment in time when either he gets runs or he has to go. And for me this is his last chance. Get the latest headlines http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ Subscribe to The Telegraph http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...
