Weekly BobBlast Issue 573 A Fresh Point of View, Part One Welcome Back to Another BobBlast! This week’s BobBlast is Part One of a three-part series discussing Painting with a Fresh Point of View. During this three part series, we move from looking straight down (no perspective) to cat's eye view, 3/4 view and 2-point perspective. For this BobBlast, Thirty Thousand Feet is a current, ongoing series of abstract landscape paintings, all imagined from the vantage point of looking straight down while in flight. From this point of view, there are no divisions of land, beliefs, restrictions or borders. Everything flows from one to the next. I see mostly an imaginary land of silos, crops, out-buildings, roads and waterfronts. Watch the demo—you see how I start a painting within my concept of Thirty Thousand Feet. I selected the asymmetrical composition, which is one of my favorite compositions for a landscape. I describe it as a LOT of something in one area, and a LITTLE something in another area. My color combination to start is monochromatic with neutrals. Materials used for the Demo: •15 x15 inch Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper •Holbein Acrylic Paint - heavy body in Ivory Black, Titanium White and Marigold •Big brushes •Paper towels •Isopropyl alcohol •Large bucket of water While I am painting the view, I am painting what I imagine… water tanks, plowed fields and crop circles. I add isopropyl alcohol for visual texture, while scraping and scratching back into the painting, also for texture. My focus is on patterns and shapes. That's how I start—I often add collage to these landscapes too. The important thing is to let your imagination run amuck! Thanks for watching this series!
