Well, this video is coming out way later than it normally does. Today was a sibling of mine's birthday, so I'm definitely not turning down an opportunity to go back down to the 812. In which, I'm going ahead and burning a week of vacation from work as I might do for the week that March 7th falls on from now on. The channel gets it's busiest around this time so lots of videos and lots of editing to do. Also gives me some opportunity to spend time with some family and friends considering I'm 3 hours from them and see them once in a blue moon now. Although, in an alternate timeline, I would be up in Kalamazoo, in a hotel room trying to process what just happened after another wild finish to a Komets K-Wings game. Speaking of that... The Fort Wayne Komets (31-17-4) streaks of big ups and big downs seems to be trending towards a big up after a 7-2 beat down of the Indy Fuel on Friday. They have been putting the body more and more which has caused many takeaways which has lead to grade A scoring chances. They are still 3rd in the Division, 2 points back of those pesky Iowa Heartlanders (spoiler alert, we'll be seeing them on the channel at the end of the month!) The Komets are far from perfect however. In fact, to call the Komets perfect would be a insult to the word perfect. While the physicality has stepped up a little bit, the pass first mentality has driven fans insane this year (as well as last year, must be Jesse Kallechy thing.) While scoring efficiency has gone up as a result, the Power Play has taken a hit from being a top 10 power play, to 16th in the league. The K's have some good snipers that can shoot in the clear, but an offense reliable on breakaways and takeaways isn't permanently sustainable. Got to make sure we can score in traffic by screening and tipping shots in, goals that have been very rare as of recent. In Good news, Odeen Tufto, who has been MIA with a hand injury, spoke on the Komets PodKast saying "I should be back playing sometime in the regular season." That's some good news to the Komets offense, considering that he has missed 17 games in total and is still 3rd in points on the team. Also, the power play can't get any worse with Tufto in it if and when he returns to the Komet line-up. Hopefully he can be back before the Iowa series so he can score a goal against his former team. On the other side, The Kalamazoo K-Wings (22-26-3) are technically last in the division. They're last in points but with 2 games in hand that 1 point deficit to Cincinnati should evaporate. They're not out of the playoff spot at all despite being last in March as Indy and Bloomington are screwing around and finding out what can happen when you can't lockdown the 4th seed. Kalamazoo is only 2 points back of Indy for 5th, and 4 points back of Bloomington with 2 games in hand. Win them both, and Kalamazoo will be tied on points for a playoff spot (they don't hold tiebreakers over anyone if regulation wins is tiebreaker # 1, 16 regulation wins is last in the division.) The K-Wings will look to make it 2 years of Playoff hockey in a row if things go their way, which would be nice consolation prize for the 50th year of K-Wing hockey. They have the 2nd best record in the division in the past 10 games which has dug them out of a hole after a set of massive losing skids. Jonathan Lemieux has cooled down since we saw him last, his .940 save % has dropped to a .911 save % and is now going to share roles more with Hunter Vorva, who is back in Kalamazoo after a short stint in the English Elite (not English Premier League) Ice Hockey League. Truly anyone in the Central Division can have a legit chance of a playoff spot, the race for that 4th playoff spot is bonkers. Will it be Bloomington, Indy, Cincinnati, or Kalamazoo to be the one to snag it and to (likely) face the Walleye in the first round? Which has to drive the 1 seed nuts considering they have no idea who they will be playing until likely the last weekend of the season. While the 2 and 3 seeds are pretty much set to play each other barring some major runs or collapses between the two of them.
