Transects are straight-line sampling methods used in ecological studies to systematically survey and assess the distribution and abundance of organisms across a habitat or environmental gradient. In a transect study, researchers record observations along a pre-determined line or path, often to examine how species distribution changes over distance or across different habitat types. Transects are commonly used in studies of vegetation, animal populations, and habitat mapping.
