Hi! If you like my videos and don’t want to miss any of my sewing adventures, subscribe!!! You can find me on Instagram as @iregusa and on Twitter as @irenepiher. There are things you don’t realise you need until you do and, in my case, it was pattern weights. The paper used to cut pattern is really thin, even see through, so it doesn’t stay in place (sometimes you just breathe and the whole thing blows away!). That’s why pattern weights exist. Because what we are looking for is a sort of paperweight, we could even use some pebbles from the beach but, we want something unique and personal, that reflects our style so, making the most of a little remnant I had (it couldn’t have been any other way) I chose a simple and practical design to make them. For each weight you will need two squares of the fabric of your choice, mine were ten by ten cm. Placing them right sides together, we are going to sew three of the four sides, turning it to the right side and filling them with rice. And this is the bit that’s different. Instead of sewing the last side like we would do to make a simple cushion, we are going to turn it a little so the two side seams are against each other. What we are left with is this pyramid, perfect to lift and place on top of patterns. It is a really easy and fun project, very relaxing if you are an expert sewer and useful to practise your seams if you are a beginner. And of course it is ideal to use old scraps we don’t know what to do with and, at the same time, create something practical, different and personal for your sewing space. So, have a go at making them for yourself or for a sewing friend and let me know down in the comments your thoughts or tag me on Instagram @iregusa.
