ALBANIA: PRESIDENT MEJDANI WATCHES MILITARY EXERCISES

(28 May 1999) Natural Sound The Albanian President Rexhep Mejdani watched army manoeuvres near the border with Kosovo on Friday. The military is carrying out live fire exercises as border skirmishes continue between Yugoslav forces and members of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Numerous T-55 tanks could been seen driving through the area while 105 Howitzers and multiple rocket launchers were also used during the exercises. Intense fighting has raged near the main frontier checkpoint at the Kosovo-Albanian border. In recent days two Albanian soldiers have been wounded and a television sound man shot in the head as he recorded the clash.
