In this episode we visit the spectacular Craters of the Moon National Monument. 🏞️This isn't the moon, but it might as well be! Craters of the Moon, nestled in the high desert of Idaho, is a 63-square-mile wonderland of frozen volcanic flows, cinder cones, and caves that whisper the secrets of ancient eruptions. Millions of years ago, when tectonic forces birthed the Great Rift, a colossal crack formed in the Earth's crust. Between 15,000 and 2,000 years ago, this rift roared to life, spewing forth eight major eruptions that painted the landscape with molten basalt. Imagine fiery fountains erupting, rivers of glowing lava carving through the plains, and cinder cones rising like chimneys spewing ash and smoke. ⛺In Craters of the Moon we camped in Lava Flow Campground.
