Listenn… this was my first time participating in the AIDS Walk, and baby, let me tell you: an in-depth 5K ain’t no joke. I thought I was gonna breeze through it — but I was humbled quickly. Still, I believe this may have been one of my favorite events. There’s a lot of history in this movement, especially here in Atlanta, and we gotta hold that up. AIDS Walk Atlanta has been going strong since 1991, when it was launched with the support of Elton John and Mayor Maynard Jackson, building on the work AID Atlanta started back in 1982 as one of the first HIV/AIDS service organizations in the South. Today, more than 39,000 people in metro Atlanta are living with HIV, and nationally about 1.2 million people are living with the virus — with nearly 13% unaware of their status. That’s why regular testing, open conversations, and prevention tools like PrEP are so important. With treatment, people living with HIV can reach an undetectable viral load, meaning the virus can’t be transmitted. Ending stigma, supporting our communities, and protecting ourselves are the keys to moving forward. At the end of the day, walking these streets, hearing voices, seeing the faces that’s what makes this real for me. I hope this video inspires you to stay educated, stay tested, and stay compassionate. 📱 Follow me / connect: Instagram: @JBGotitmusic TikTok: @JBGotitmusic Twitter / X: @JBGotit 💌 For collabs, bookings, or questions: [email protected]
