This old-fashioned potato soup is the kind of meal families made when money was tight but bellies still needed filling. Simple ingredients, one pot, and a whole lot of comfort. This is true back porch cooking — the kind of food that brought families to the table no matter how hard the times were. Not super thick. Not fancy. Creamy, soft potatoes, simple flavor. This is belly-warming food. If you grew up on meals like this, you know it’s more than soup… it’s a memory. 🍲 Ingredients 7-8 medium russet potatoes, peeled & diced 1 medium onion, diced 2-3 Stalks of celery 2 tablespoons butter and 1 tablespoon of bacon grease (for true old-school flavor) 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 cups milk (whole milk is best, but use what you’ve got) 2 cups water or broth Salt, garlic powder & black pepper, to taste Directions 1- Cook the potatoes Saute onion and celery in 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 tablespoon of bacon grease until soft.to a pot. Add 3 tablespoons of All Purpose Flour cook for 1-2 minutes. Add potatoes and cover with water or broth. Add salt, pepper and garlic powder. Cook on medium heat for 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are fork-tender. 2- Add milk slowly Pour milk in a little at a time, stirring constantly. 3- Season Taste soup and add more Salt and pepper if needed.
