This is a demonstration video of Rondo from Abdelazer by Henry Purcell from an arrangement by Christopher Mowat in his book Slide Show for Trombone. The tempo taken is around the marked tempo of quarter note = 80. If you are using this video to help you learn the piece, feel free to adjust the video speed in the video settings to suit your needs. Practice Tips 1) Think about using alternate positions to help you play a fluid phrase in the sixteenth note passages. (for ex. in bar 5, use 5th position for the Bb and the second Db. In the first ending, consider using 4th position for the F above the staff. ) 2) In the first ending, try and make a smooth line while you pass the melody between the trombone and piano accompaniment in the sixteenth note passages. Make sure you are playing the dynamics marked in the part to help you make the melodic sequence have direction. 3) Make sure you can read the tenor clef before you try and learn this piece. The clef points to the middle C on the trombone in 3rd position. 4) The mordent at the end of the second ending is a simplified trill and should just be played as a quick flip of the notes between the E flat and F (Eb-F-Eb). Take the F in 4th position and use the natural slur to make the mordent happen. 5) Practice these arpeggios to make the piece feel more natural to play. (B flat minor (2 octaves), D flat major, A flat major, G flat major, F major) 6) Practice the B flat minor scale in its harmonic form with some scale patterns to help yourself get used to this key.
