It was another heated meeting in the Town of Monroe. Members of United Monroe expressed their concern about the possible annexation of their town to the Village of Kiryas Joel. Time Warner Cable News Reporter Jessica Chen was there and has the details. MONROE, N.Y. -- Members of United Monroe standing as one Wednesday afternoon. They're refusing to go into a meeting held by Town of Monroe Supervisor Harley Doles. "There is no value in anything that should come out of this meeting," said Chairwoman of United Monroe, Emily Convers. She said they believe Doles has the interest of Kiryas Joel Joel over theirs. She said they're protesting to stop the proposed 507 acre annexation. The Village of Kiryas Joel is looking to add property from the Town of Monroe. "They make decisions that adversely affect the quality of life of everyone who lives here," said Town of Monroe resident, Susan Belanich. But inside the meeting, Doles said he's just sharing information about the process. "It's a shame they're protesting outside rather than listening in here," said Town of Monroe Supervisor Harley Doles. He assured residents if the annexation goes through, property taxes in the Village of Monroe won't go up. But he said it's still unclear if Town taxes will. "The Comptroller needs information from the school district to be able to answer that question," Doles said. However, residents said they're skeptical. "Everything they've done since they've [Town of Monroe Board] been here has been about KJ," said Town of Monroe resident, Chuck Sapp.
