In this webinar Kathryn Cok will discuss the development and acceptance of artistic research in second- and third cycle -degree programs and share some of her personal research outputs. She will also present the projects of three North American alumni who took part in the Master in The Hague and share the platform with current second year Master student Jeremy Bass, a classical guitarist from Virginia finishing a Master's in lute and theorbo. He will talk about his experience of doing artistic research on lute continuo in 17th century English music. Harpsichordist, fortepianist and artistic researcher Kathryn Cok is active on both sides of the Atlantic. Her position as Head of Master Research at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague since 2011 has allowed Kathryn to witness first-hand the exciting development of artistic research as a source of inspiration and discovery for young performers. In addition to helping students develop their own artistic identity, the focus on artistic research provides them with important skill sets which enable them to be successful in the ever-challenging world of historical performance and beyond.
