But genuine concerns remain about how engagement with government-led systems aligns with humanitarian principles – particularly in conflict settings. Purpose: At a time when government-led social protection systems are going to become increasingly important, this session will encourage discussion and debate about the critical role for humanitarians in this space. While tackling head on some of the biggest concerns and challenges. Description: Drawing on the SPIAC-B Common Principles and insights from the STAAR Facility and BASIC Research, the session will bust some common myths and offer concrete examples of HOW social protection and humanitarian systems can complement and strengthen one another in support of efficient, equitable and sustainable crisis response. Outcomes: Participants will leave with the insights, motivation, and practical tools necessary to engage more with government-led systems in their own work. Audience: This session is designed for humanitarian practitioners, decision-makers, and field staff who are uncertain about the role for social protection in crisis response. It is also relevant for donors, policymakers, and those seeking innovative and collaborative approaches to enhance humanitarian outcomes.
