Often, boards assume that because they have intelligent and accomplished members, effectiveness will happen naturally. However, without intentionally setting rules of engagement and determining desired outcomes, dysfunction and poor group dynamics can occur. The video highlights the four pillars of board effectiveness that need to align with and support high-performance ambitions: People (quality, focus, and dedication), Information Architecture (formal and informal/external and internal), Structures and Processes, and Group Dynamics and Board Culture. By determining what great looks like for the board and organization and focusing on these pillars, boards can approach and achieve high-performance. Good governance is a choice that starts with individual board members and the board as a whole making the time and having the intention to create a system that supports governance excellence
