Sometimes the job didn’t break you. It re-triggered you. For many Black Women, toxic workplaces don’t just create new stress — they mirror old relational wounds. The pressure to perform for approval. The expectation to anticipate needs without being asked. The reward for being the “strong one” — until you set a boundary. In this powerful LIVE conversation, I sit down with Dani Ellison, Tisha Mitchell, and Sondra Thigpen to unpack the parallel process between toxic job dynamics and complicated mother–daughter relationships in Black women. We’ll explore how: • Conditional love becomes self-worth tied to productivity • Parentification at home becomes overfunctioning at work • Being relied upon but not nurtured turns into hyper-independence • Suppressing emotions for harmony leads to workplace code-switching • Success can trigger resentment — at home and on the job • Loyalty makes it difficult to leave harmful environments • Praise followed by punishment creates trauma bonds • Boundaries feel like betrayal — even when they’re healthy Many Black Women are not just doing their jobs — they are reliving competence-for-safety patterns learned early in life. When closeness was unpredictable growing up, workplaces that alternate between support and criticism can recreate attachment disruptions that lead to burnout, anxiety, emotional numbing, and exit paralysis. We’ll also talk about healing pathways — including therapy, sisterhood, mentorship, spiritual practices, and even nature-based grounding — that can support somatic re-parenting and help you reconnect with your identity beyond usefulness. If you’ve ever asked yourself: “Why is it so hard for me to leave this job?” “Why do I feel guilty for setting boundaries?” “Who am I if I’m not needed?” This conversation is for you. Sometimes leaving the job isn’t just a career decision — it’s an attachment decision. ✨Dani Ellison | Founder of Divine Daughter Rehab™ ✨ Reparenting Coach for Black Women | Acudetox Specialist | Survivor Dani's YT Channel: / @daniwentnocontact Work with Dani: https://calendly.com/ellisonink/enroll Subscribe to Dani's mailing list: https://ellisonink.com Apply for Dani's Free Spiritual Support Group for Estranged Black Daughters: https://ellisonink.com/pray Tish's books: Radical Resilience: Confrontation Chaos, Untangle Toxic Ties, and Thrive in Midlife https://a.co/d/gbshYog Here is the link to my free download: Radiant Reinvention: Your 12-Step Roadmap for Triumph over Loss: https://www.transformwithtisha.com/ @midlifemakeover Sondra's services: @fromlacktolegacy fromlacktolegacy@gmail.com https://calendly.com/fromlacktolegacy...
