Re-uploaded in HD, this is the same basic video as before. The other fan I have has gone to a fellow DT forerumner, since he was also after one. I've been after one of these elusive 5 blade General Electric Standard table fans for a while. This example is in better shape than the previous one I had (missing badge). This fan has a 12" diameter 5-element boxfan type bladeset ( similar to the W22 box fan ), protected with an OSHA type cage and powered by a two speed 4-pole shaded pole type motor. This fan is quite powerful, and thus not as quiet as other fans I have. Due to the relatively high RPM operation this fan has a very distinctive whir as it runs, it's not unpleasantly loud but not ideal to me as a bedroom runner since I prefer a whisper quiet fan. This fan has a lot of the styling of the older G.E. Standards with the "strap" style neck and what I see as an aircraft theme with the long cylindrical motor housing and "jet engine" air intake for the motor. These elements are also present on my earlier 10" Standard that I use at the office, like that fan this one has the motor in the rear of the housing with the gearbox between it and the blades. The five bladed prop adds to the unique look of this machine. I remember seeing a fan like this when I was little and my family went to Disneyland. It was installed upside down on the ceiling part of a kiosk that I think was near the carousel and was keeping the workers inside cool. That is all long since gone though :-(. So this is yet another "memory fan" for me and now I have it :-). #vintage, #retro, #GE
