my music for piano & orchestra. The origins of this music stem from my grandfather John Rostek who considered himself Deutsch. His father was from Vienna then relocated to Kosice, Slovakia. As a youngster John settled in Carrick, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The picture i selected shows Brownsville Road - a view that John might have known - as that street runs the length of Carrick. St. Basil Church was located near there and John practiced his faith there. There are brief moments in my music where a trumpet is heard. John was a virtuoso coronet player, self taught, who was a member of the the Marine band. He also augmented his income by teaching and by playing in various events that characterized those days... when band music was common at both social functions, ball parks, weddings and funerals. Those days are gone but my memories remain.
