F vs V Consonant Sounds

This video provides pronunciation practice of the /f/ and /v/ sounds, sounds paired together because they take the same mouth position. For both sounds, the bottom lip gently touches the bottom of the top front teeth. The /v/ sound requires activation of the vocal cords, while the /f/ sound does not. The /v/ sound is a voiced sound and the /f/ sound is voiceless (or unvoiced). Both sounds are continuant sounds - meaning the sounds can be held as long as your breath lasts. Listen to and repeat the minimal pairs in order to hone your ear and practice the proper mouth positions for each sound. (Minimal Pairs are two words that sound the same EXCEPT FOR one sound.)
