The plot, which is not really obvious from this extract, seems to revolve around a man's bet that the can get from America to Europe by a certain day and time and bring a certain young lady with him. Contains good actuality footage from the a Zeppelin including shots of the liner the SS Imperator which, when launched in June 1913, was the largest passenger liner in the world. CAPTION "On the way to Europe". Very grainy footage of an airship in the sky. A shot of a boat with multi-cranes on the sea with a large Zeppelin flying above it - we follow the airship at it flies forward. CAPTION "Mr Parker in his airship giving orders". Another front-on shot of the airship in the sky with a view of the propeller turning - the airship starts to do a right turn. Another shot of the boat with the cranes (which is possibly some sort of dredger), with the airship above it I the sky. We see a large man in a cabin being helped into his jacket by a cabin boy - Mr Parker is wearing a waistcoat, white shirt and light trousers - the male cabin boy wears a military style uniform with a double row of brass buttons - as Mr Parker turns we see he is wearing a military peaked cap and is smoking a pipe - the servant moves over to a basket chair which is further back in the cabin and picks up clothing which has been left there - including large brimmed hat - other wicker chairs are visible in the wooden cabin - Mr Parker picks up a box of matches and lights his pipe as the crew man takes the clothes and backs out of the cabin door. We see a view now from the airship (grainy) a silhouette of man's face is on the right. Back in Mr Parker's cabin another officer enters, he has three stripes on his greatcoat and he takes off his hat in respect as he enters - Mr Parker turns to address him; the second officer looks at the camera then Mr Parker takes a watch out of his pocket, considers it - Mr Parker issues an instruction and the second officer leaves as Mr Parker continues smoking and walks towards us. A shot of the airship in the air, flying a few hundred feet above the sea. We see Mr Parker smoking his pipe leaning out of one of the open windows of the Zeppelin as it flies above the ground - we see the struts of the ship protruding out - and below we see people running towards the airship as Mr Parker gesticulates to them, we can see steam coming out of an exhaust on the airship's body - we now see what is a group of about two dozen people hurrying on the ground - they grab hold of a rope to pull the airship in to land - the viewpoint moves up again and we see Mr Parker watching. Now the airship is landing and the ground crew is busying itself securing the ship - we still see Mr Parker and his pipe and the turning propeller, slowing down. Now we see an empty road with a car from the 1910s coming towards us - it crosses what looks like a bridge and passes by. Now we see a fenced embankment with a small telegraph pole into view comes the car which now has one door open and a bearded man is hanging out of it - the car stops and the man gets out - we see he is wearing a bow tie and a bowler hat - on the car we can see carriage lamps and a chauffeur is just visible through the windscreen - the passenger in the hat is obviously looking about frantically for something - he finally points into the distance, takes a handkerchief out of his pocket and starts to wave it. We see the silhouette of a tree and the airship moves above it in the sky. Back at the car the man in the bowler hat is waving and pointing - he turns and talks to the chauffeur in the car - then in gets back in and the car drives off. We now see a rowing boat on the sea in an estuary with one end of the airship in the background - the car drives up to the shoreline and stops - a woman is carried from the car and placed in the rowing boat - two men begin rowing away towards the airship. We see the underparts of the airship with the square windows visible... Huntley Film Archives is a film library holding tens of thousands of films. The large majority of the films are documentaries. Films cover a wide range of subjects and production dates range from the 1890’s to the 2020’s. As with all libraries we make no judgement on the content of our holdings and make them available for educational purposes for all to see. Films may have content or express opinions some may think inappropriate or offensive, but it is not the work of a library to censor educational resources. Films should be viewed with historical objectivity and within a context relevant to the times in which they were produced
