Drawing from his experience handling ransomware incidents, Kurt Sanger revealed that beyond technical expertise, what cyber attack victims need most is someone to help them through the devastating human impact of these crises. His Holy Cross education taught him to see that “these are not solely technical events. They are human events.” Sanger, political science major at Holy Cross from the Class of 1993, is an attorney at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, advising on cybersecurity, data protection, AI, regulatory compliance, public policy, and government relations. He is also a Non-Resident Fellow with the Army Cyber Institute at West Point, a Senior Non-Resident Advisor at CSIS, and a Senior Adviser to the Commission on Cyber Force Generation. He retired as a Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel after serving at U.S. Cyber Command from 2014 to 2022, where he was lead attorney for plans, policy, domestic and international partnerships, COVID-19 response, and legislative affairs, then for operations and intelligence, and ultimately Deputy General Counsel. Earlier in his career, he served as senior legal advisor to the Afghan National Army. CrossTalks are offered by the Ciocca Center for Business, Ethics, and Society at the College of the Holy Cross.
