While my first hands-on time with an Original XBOX (circa 2002) gave me a glimpse into Max's foreboding world, I never actually had the privilege of playing the other ports of this title. Needless to say, I'll take my Max Payne games in any shape or form, just to experience some bullet-time action in the frigid snow-fallen cityscape of NYC. Unfortunately however, this PS2 version of 'Max Payne' suffers from an extremely poor frame-rate and the occasional "forced level restart glitch" - even when being played on a PS3 (with various enhancements) through backwards compatibility. Now, this happens to be the digital download version of the game (procured via the PS3's Storefront), so I'm anxious to also try an actual retail copy - just to see if the disc happens to fare any better performance wise. Even still, Max Payne remains a solid gaming affair that definitely warrants a play-through, even if to experience the inferior PS2 port and its aforementioned eccentricities. Without question, 'Max Payne' and its sequel 'Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne' on the Original XBOX, still remain the best way to become immersed into these memorable noir thrillers. Actually, any version of Max Payne (PC included), along with the equally impressive Game Boy Advance port is worth checking-out in my humble opinion, just to revel in a worthwhile nostalgia excursion from yester-year.
