Newton Abbot Station is on the line from Exeter St Davids towards Paignton/Plymouth. The former being part of the Rivera Line between Exmouth and Paignton. The station is managed by Great Western Railway and sees a train roughly every 30 minutes towards Exeter/Exmouth and Paignton in most cases, other local stopping services towards Plymouth call here; all GWR local services are operated using Class 150/158/165 and Class 166 Diesel Multiple Units: however up to December 2021 local services were mainly formed using Class 143 Pacer Bus Units however these have all been withdrawn due to their out dated design and limited facilities for those with additional needs. Long distance services also call here these are operated by: Cross Country Trains who use a variety of traction including Class 220/221 DMU's and also High Speed Trains (Class 43) these Cross Country Train services operate every few hours to Paignton and almost every hour to Plymouth, this frequency is the same for trains heading north; however most start at Plymouth and a few start at Paignton. Great Western Railways long distance services call here on services between Paignton/Plymouth and London Paddington and vice versa using Class 800-802 DEMU's, these services operate roughly hourly towards Plymouth and London Paddington, a few of these long distance services as pre mentioned also start/terminate at Paignton.
