Crane Service and AMD recently teamed up to install a 65,050 lb. mission critical transformer at a Lubbock, TX power plant. Due to overhead power line restrictions that negated direct delivery by crane, the Crane Service team chose to use a three-stage hydraulic slide to deliver the transformer over 175 ft. to the pad. The path of the slide would be akin to driving in your car and making a right hand turn (15 ft. slide stage one), then a left hand turn (130 ft. slide stage two), then a right hand turn (30 ft. slide stage three). The transformer was offloaded to the first slide stage (Hydra-Slide HT500 – 500-ton heavy-duty slide system) with a Link-Belt HTC 86100 100-ton hydraulic crane with 39,500 lbs. of counterweight. The first slide stage of 15 ft. was required to position the transformer in the correct orientation for the second slide stage of 130 ft. After being jacked and lowered onto the second slide stage, the 13.83 ft. x 7.2 ft.1 x 12.88 ft. transformer was slid the 130 ft. to the start of slide stage three. Due to limited overhead clearance, slide stage three was performed using a Hydra-Slide LP400 – 400 ton low-profile slide system. The LP400 has a total height of only 1.5″, making it a perfect solution to use in such situations as inside buildings, or within live power stations. Once jacked and lowered onto the slide stage three, the Crane Service team deftly delivered the transformer to the pad. http://www.craneserviceinc.com/ http://www.mlcranegroup.com/
