Preparatory to run away from the harmful stimulus *Rubrospinal tract ordinates in the red nucleus and projects to the interneurons in the lateral spinal cord. Stimulation of the red nucleus leads to the stimulation of the flexors and inhibition of the extensors. Hence a lesion above the red nucleus results in decorticate posture (flexion of the upper limbs) and intact tonic neck reflexes.
