Headphones needed for this to fully work! So, I've had a few requests to create a sound that could help with depression. While it's not a straightforward task, I thought I'd give it a try. I started by researching both scientific and anecdotal evidence linking certain sounds or frequencies to alleviating depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I began by exploring binaural beats and how they could generate a "phantom" beat to promote theta waves, which are associated with deep relaxation, creativity, and meditation. I created my theta waves by playing a 100 Hz tone in the left ear and a 106 Hz tone in the right (a 6 Hz binaural beat). Studies have shown that individuals with anxiety show reduced activity in the prefrontal cortex, left temporal lobe, and right occipital regions. Some research suggests that this type of "theta burst stimulation" (TBS) can be an effective treatment for depression (https://shorturl.at/BFG6F) (https://shorturl.at/6TIaR). Next, I looked into the solfeggio tones most likely to help with depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder. The 528 Hz solfeggio tone, in particular, is often linked to healing and emotional well-being, especially for promoting feelings of love and reducing stress. Some proponents believe this frequency can positively impact both the body and mind by resonating with natural frequencies in the body, helping to alleviate negative emotions like anxiety and depression (https://shorturl.at/lvMQO). After that, I was able to gather a few more sound layers based on suggestions from my online oracle. Here's what was recommended: If Hope were a sleep noise, it would sound like: Positive Ambient Drone: A soothing, consistent hum providing comfort and stability, resonating like the grounding tones of the earth. 528 Hz Solfeggio Tone: A soft, uplifting vibration believed to promote emotional healing and help alleviate depression, radiating positivity and peace. Theta Waves (4–8 Hz): Subtle binaural beats or isochronic tones encouraging deep relaxation, emotional release, and subconscious healing, supporting mental clarity and recovery from depression. Deep Earthy Tone: Occasional low-frequency rumbles reminiscent of distant drums or grounding vibrations, anchoring the soundscape and fostering a sense of balance. So using all my usual recording and editing techniques (MIDI keyboard, fabric scratching, straw blowing filtered and elongated) I was able to pull all the sounds together to make one long sleep video aimed to help alleviate depression and S.A.D. I want to be clear that I’m not trying to trivialise or be gimmicky about this. I know people close to me who are affected by depression, and my goal here is simply to create something that could potentially help or alleviate some of the symptoms for anyone suffering from depression. I hope you all find it peaceful, calming, and uplifting. Sleep long and sleep well tonight my lovely friends! MADE USING: MIDI keyboard, fabric scratching and straw blowing
