Local Property Tax Relief Last year, the Franklin County Auditor’s Office announced that the 2023 mass reappraisal would bring an average 41% increase in residential property values. This state-mandated process is intended to keep property values aligned with the current real estate market, and tax rates are adjusted accordingly as a result. But, the reality is that about 75% of all owner-occupied properties in the county saw an increase on their tax bills at the beginning of this year. These increases are being felt throughout the county, but have burdened low- and moderate-income households and those on fixed incomes most significantly.
