The Bala Mukundashtakam is a Sanskrit composition of eight stanzas by a 9th-century saint called Sri Bilvamangala Thakur from southern India. It glorifies Bala Mukunda, the Supreme Lord Krishna in His baby form sleeping on a banyan leaf, also known as Vatapatrashayi in connection with His pastime with the sage Markandeya described in the 12th Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam. It is also a prayer to Him as the Supreme Being, the ultimate refuge of all and describes His transcendental beauty and intimate and loving pastimes with the inhabitants of Vrindavan as a young boy. It has been sung and made into music videos by many classical singers and devotees in recent times.
