Scotland with Kids – Our Edinburgh & Highlands Family Adventure! 🏴✨ Part 2 of our family summer break takes us north — to Scotland! After 8 nights exploring London, we caught the train to Edinburgh to begin our Scottish adventure. With castles, highland cows, fairy glens, lochs, waterfalls, and even a Harry Potter moment, this leg of the trip was packed with wild landscapes, local magic, and lots of family fun. We based ourselves in Edinburgh for the first few days before heading up to Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness. Here’s our full 9-day itinerary exploring Edinburgh and the Highlands with kids. 🗓️ Itinerary Highlights: Day 1 – Arrival in Edinburgh Train up from London Met up with Aunty Bryana and walked the Portobello beach promenade Day 2 – Crow Hill Quest A magical (and muddy!) hike up Crow Hill Great views and fun storytelling with the kids Day 3 – Edinburgh Old Town Explored the Royal Mile Visited Camera Obscura – £67 for a family ticket (early morning discount) More wandering through Edinburgh’s historic alleys and streets Day 4 – Road Trip Begins! Collected a hire car Drove north to Drumnadrochit, on the banks of Loch Ness Day 5 – Chasing Waterfalls Walked to the peaceful Falls of Divach – free Day 6 – Epic Highlands Day Explored Loch Ness by water with Beastie Boats – £160 for the four of us Stopped in Inverness for a short city wander Visited Clava Cairns – ancient stone circles (free) Walked through Reelig Glen – a magical forest trail also known as Fairy Glen (free) Finished at Urquhart Castle – £36.50 for 3 tickets (Thea was free) + £6 guidebook Day 7 – Maze & Cows Visited the Touchstone Maze (free) Met some classic Highland cows – one of the kids' highlights!
