The Carl Goldberg Products 'J3 Piper Cub' runs a 500KV Dualsky brushless motor, 100 Amp ESC, 6S 5400mAh LiPo, and turns a 13x8.5 prop for smooth scale performance. Flight Review: This was the first time running 6S on the Carl Goldberg model and the extra power made a noticeable difference straight away. The conditions had a crosswind so I slowly lined up on the grass and attempted a takeoff to the south. The first attempt was not very satisfying as the wind rounded the aircraft up during the roll, so I came back around and set up for another try. Once airborne the improvement from the move to 6S was obvious. The aircraft still flies in a very scale manner but now when power is needed it is immediately available. I was able to apply throttle for torque assisted climbs before easing off and transitioning into long glides. I also used ESC braking to stop the propeller for several glide attempts. The Cub has an excellent and very predictable glide rate which makes it ideal for practicing long glide approaches. I circled around the north end of the strip before committing to a long final and touching down on the tarmac. After only thirteen flights this aircraft has already become a strong foundation for experimenting with motors and power setups. Practicing glide approaches on a predictable aircraft like the Cub helps build the skills needed for landing more demanding models that have shorter glide performance.
