This is Gaohu Village, Fuzhou's largest urban village. What you're seeing is a 'Youshen' parade held in the village's alleyways. Unlike the grand, awe-inspiring Youshen processions in rural Changle, Fuzhou, this feels more like a street tour for the deities. They carefully navigate through the densely packed alleys, tangled with a chaotic web of electrical wires. Every step is taken with caution, as even a minor mishap could trigger a major incident in such a high-density residential area. Gaohu Village is located in the southeastern part of Fuzhou city. Although it's called Gaohu Village, it's actually a collective term for several villages of varying sizes, including Dacheng, Longyuan, Qigan, and others. With urban development, due to its advantageous location, proximity to the city center, numerous residential buildings, and affordable rents, it has attracted a large influx of migrants, like other urban villages. Of course, it also shares the same drawbacks, such as being dirty, disorderly, and poorly managed. Because of its large area and numerous houses, countless alleys crisscross like an ant nest. From a high altitude, it resembles a giant physical maze, and it's easy to lose direction when inside. Even navigation systems often make mistakes, making it a nightmare for delivery drivers. While the resident migrant population outnumbers the locals, it still preserves strong local traditions. Various ancestral halls and temples are everywhere, and various religious activities are held regularly, making it an excellent place to understand traditional Fuzhou culture.
